Frequently Asked Questions
Why extract oils from hemp?
Northeast Processing was founded in order to unleash the powers of the natural compounds found in hemp without the need for combusting plant material and ingesting the smoke and chemicals associated with smoking.
What is CBD?
Cannabidiol—CBD—is a compound found in cannabis that many people find to have health benefits. It does not make people feel “stoned” and has no obvious psychotropic effects. CBD appeals to many people seeking a natural remedy for relief from inflammation, pain, anxiety, psychosis, seizures, spasms, and other conditions. New studies are released regularly that point to CBD having possible benefits for a wide range of conditions, including arthritis, diabetes, alcoholism, MS, chronic pain, schizophrenia, PTSD, depression, antibiotic-resistant infections, epilepsy, and other neurological disorders.
Is there a difference between ethanol and CO2 extraction?
Both processes extract the essential oils from hemp. Both offer benefits along with unique challenges. CO2 extraction will pull lipids from the plant requiring winterization to collect the hemp oil. Ethanol pulls out other compounds called flavanoids and chlorophyll from the hemp, providing a full spectrum extract that can be further purified.
What is the difference between whole-plant oils and CBD isolates?
Whole-plant oils will consist of a wide range of naturally occurring cannabinoids and terpenes that exist in the hemp plant. CBD isolate describes selectively isolating the CBD and concentrating it to a pure form, eliminating the vast majority of the other compounds from the oil.
What are terpenes?
Terpenes are compounds found in all plants that contribute to their characteristic smell and taste. Many studies have pointed to the biological activities of these compounds, and it is believed that they act in concert with cannabinoids to assist in the overall perception that a person feels upon ingestion. There are over 100 known terpenes found in cannabis.
